1
Engaging Peers and Community

The program begins with an announcement to the entire school, aiming to gather an accurate understanding of what students in the school and their communities want for America. In the classroom, the civics teacher introduces a questionnaire that students will use for their interviews. Students learn and rehearse essential interviewing skills to effectively communicate with their peers and gather information.
2
Interviewing and Data Collection

Students begin the interviewing phase by engaging in individual discussions with their interviewees about their views on the country. At the conclusion of each dialogue, they are tasked with collecting two words that best reflect the interviewees' desires for America, along with specific demographic data gathered from the questionnaire. The Linley platform allows students to input the words and data, which will then be organized into a spreadsheet referred to as “The Sheet.”
3
Classroom Dialogue and Debate

Under the guidance of their civics teacher, students review the data and words collected on “The Sheet.” They explore the meanings, underlying values, and intentions behind the responses. This dialogue sparks insights and interpretations, leading students to rationalize and edit the words—combining similar terms—before sending them to a data bank for transformation into thought-provoking Word Clouds. The platform's process moves from micro to macro: words collected from individual schools and communities contribute to state-specific Word Clouds, which ultimately feed into a national Word Cloud.
4
Word Cloud Analysis & Discussion

Through the intuitive platform, teachers and students gain access to word clouds categorized by school, community, region, and state. This feature enables them to compare local results with national trends and encourages students to connect with peers across the country. They will analyze similarities and differences and participate in Zoom discussions with students from schools across their state and beyond. These interactions foster meaningful conversations and connections, enriching their understanding of the diverse perspectives that exist throughout the nation.
